Perth Cultural Center (collab w/ iain roy and cheryl rose)

concept wayfindin 2.jpg

This proposal was an attempt to develop wayfinding and Whadjuk (indigenous) place mapping for the Perth Cultural Centre precinct. With an aim to balance communication of indigenous cultural specificity of the site with directions, events, activities and data. As a finalist, the project was taken in collaboration with emerging whadjuk noongar aboriginal artists.

Using the indigenous peppermint tree as an analogy for colonial and post-colonial history on country, a cultural/wayfinding image/culpture was developed to represent this deconstruction and reconstruction of relationships. The final submission included artwork by a local indigenous artist Cheryl Rose that would be represented as augmented reality/timber artwork on the 'trees'.
